Configure the following setting in the Compatibility tab of the Properties of New Template dialog.

Select the minimum Windows versions compatible with the following components.

Certification Authority
Certificate recipient

The selected values impact the schema version of the certificate template. See Cryptography for the Provider Category supported by each template version.

After creating the template, these settings can be modified but not the template version.
